Meet the family behind Layalin Creative

Our Story

Hi! We're the family behind Layalin Creative. In 2024, we made a life-changing decision to leave our comfortable life in the UK and move to Spain to pursue our dream of transforming an old Spanish property into our forever home.

What started as a wild idea over dinner turned into the biggest adventure of our lives. We're not professional renovators or builders – we're just a family learning as we go, making mistakes, celebrating victories, and documenting every moment along the way.

This blog and our YouTube channel are our way of sharing this incredible journey with you. We want to inspire others to chase their dreams, no matter how impossible they might seem.

Laya

Content Creator & Designer

The creative force behind Layalin. I handle all the content creation, interior design decisions, and most of the DIY projects. When I'm not covered in paint or plaster dust, you'll find me editing videos or planning our next renovation phase.

David

Project Manager & Builder

The practical one who keeps our renovation projects on track (or tries to!). I handle the technical aspects, structural work, and make sure we don't accidentally knock down any load-bearing walls. I've learned more about plumbing and electrical work in the past year than in my entire life.

The Kids

Chief Inspectors & Spanish Experts

Our three amazing children who have embraced this adventure with enthusiasm and resilience. They're learning Spanish faster than we are, making friends with local kids, and always ready to "help" with renovation projects (which sometimes actually helps!).

Los Lobos - Our Dream Project

Finding Los Lobos

After months of searching, we found Los Lobos – a beautiful but neglected property in the Spanish countryside. The moment we saw it, despite its condition, we knew it was meant to be ours.

The property includes the main house (in serious need of renovation), several outbuildings (even more in need of renovation!), and acres of land with mature olive trees and stunning mountain views.

The Renovation Journey

We're tackling the renovation room by room, learning new skills with each project. From electrical rewiring to tile laying, from painting to plumbing – we're doing most of it ourselves.

Yes, we make mistakes. Yes, some days are incredibly frustrating. But the sense of accomplishment when we complete a room? It's indescribable. Every wall we paint, every floor we lay, every fixture we install – it's all our own work.

Life in Spain

Moving to Spain wasn't just about buying a house – it was about embracing a different way of life. The slower pace, the emphasis on family and community, the incredible food culture – we're falling more in love with it every day.

The kids are thriving, learning Spanish at school and from local friends. We've been welcomed warmly by our neighbors, who have become invaluable sources of advice, help, and friendship.
